Position Description


Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Budget & Financial Planning Analyst will provide support in the budget development process, financial planning, reporting, analysis, and grant reimbursements.

 

Essential Functions


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs variance analyses, studies historical revenue / expense behaviors, and prepares financial projections.
  • Prepares reports outlying financial implications of proposed actions including cost benefit and project evaluation analyses.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports for management.
  • Forecasts the year-end financial status.
  • Participates in the annual budget process.
  • Provides budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, reporting support, and advice to the managers.
  • Participates in working groups and committee duties as required.
  • Works with IT and other business areas as required for purposes of creating and improving existing financial reports including identifying business requirements and completing user acceptance.
  • Assists in the month end close process of the books.
  • Prepares the required financial reports for governing bodies (AAMC, WSCUC, BPPE and others).
  • Performs other related duties, which do not affect the nature and scope of the work.


Minimum Qualifications


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting functions.
  • Knowledge of financial, accounting and reporting systems, processes and controls.
  • High degree of understanding accounting processes.
  • High degree of attention to details especially working with numbers and dollars.
  • Research, analytical, problem solving and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive with ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines with changing priorities.


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting and/or budgeting.
  • Experience working in higher education preferred.
